The Department of Physics was established in the year 2003 to promote quality education in the domain of Physical Science. It offers Under Graduate as well as Post Graduate courses with insight into theoretical and practical aspects. The curriculum is designed towards imparting quality education through which student can solve scientific challenges. Moreover, UG and PG laboratories are well equipped for developing the practical skills of students. The faculty members of the Department are actively involved in many advanced areas of research namely nanoscience, nonlinear dynamics, molecular quantum mechanics, computational physics, optics, crystal growth and biomaterials. The Department offers a series of guest lectures to nurture research knowledge among the students. The department has an association “Einstein’s Hub” for exploring the innovations of student’s co-curricular skills. It becomes an effective facilitator for transferring knowledge of high quality to the students.
Candidates seeking admission to first year of the Bachelor of Science – Physics shall be required to have passed the Higher secondary examination with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu or an examination accepted as equivalent there to by the Syndicate subject to the conditions as may be prescribed there to are permitted to appear and qualify for B.Sc., (Physics) degree examination of Periyar University after a course of study of three academic years.

Since its inception, the department has been committed to delivering quality education that bridges foundational knowledge with emerging technological advancements. With over 25 years of experience in teaching and academic leadership, I am dedicated to creating an environment that nurtures innovation, research, and skill development. My academic journey began with a B.Sc. in Electronics, followed by a postgraduate degree in Applied Electronics from PSG College of Arts and Science (1998). To further broaden my expertise, I pursued an M.E. in Computer Science and Engineering and qualified the UGC-NET examination in 2009. I earned my Ph.D. from Bharathiar University in 2017, specializing in Medical Image Processing using Machine Learning—a field that remains central to my research and publications. Our department emphasizes practical learning, and our curriculum is designed in line with Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) to ensure our students are industry-ready. With published research in SCI, SCIE, and Scopus-indexed journals, we also encourage our faculty and students to take part in cutting-edge research that solves real-world problems. The department boasts state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and consistently conducts workshops, faculty development programs (FDPs), and technical seminars to promote ongoing academic growth. Through value-added courses, industry partnerships, and a wide range of co-curricular activities, we ensure that our graduates are well-equipped to thrive in core electronics, software, and interdisciplinary fields.
