The Department of Microbiology was established in 1995 and has since evolved into a vibrant center for teaching and research. It offers B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programme aimed at nurturing academic excellence and scientific curiosity. The primary objective of the department is to disseminate knowledge and promote high-quality microbial research among students. The department has received substantial extramural grant support from agencies such as UGC, DST, and TNSCST, enabling faculty and scholars to produce high-impact research publications and grant patents. The department is supported by a team of well-experienced and dedicated faculty members, including four doctorate holders and three recognized research supervisors. At present, eight research scholars (four part-time and four full-time) are pursuing their Ph.D. programmes under the guidance of our faculty. Our faculty members have been honoured with the Innovative Research and Excellence Award from reputed institutions, acknowledging their significant contributions to scientific research. Additionally, our students have successfully received funding under the Student Project Scheme of the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST), Chennai, reflecting their research potential and academic commitment.Through its rigorous curriculum and research-driven training, the department equips students with the skills and expertise required to excel in the diverse fields of Microbiology.
