The Department of Biotechnology sprouted its root in the year 1999. The department has been offering PG programme (M.Sc. Biotechnology) since 1999 with the vision of enhancing the basic skills of biotechnology and emphasizing the development of research in various biotechnology fields. The UG programme (B.Sc. Biotechnology) was introduced in the year 2000. The Doctoral program operates under Periyar University norms since 2001. The department maintains a focused research environment, currently supporting three ongoing Ph.D. scholars guided by two dedicated research supervisors. To date, the department has successfully produced eight doctoral graduates, underscoring its commitment to advanced scientific inquiry. The department demonstrates strong financial backing and career excellence, securing substantial research grants exceeding Rs. 70 Lakhs from agencies like MST-DST, DST-SERB, and TNSCST. These funds support student projects, international conferences, and specialized science programs. Additionally, scholars benefit from prestigious awards like the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship. Graduates find high success in the workforce, joining industry leaders such as Biocon, TCS, Clarus RCM and Milky Mist in roles ranging from Scientist, Medical Summarization, Food Safety Officer. The department further empowers students by providing dedicated guidance for competitive government and entrance exams, including CSIR, TNPSC, GATE, and UPSC.
To nurture the young minds with a potential to innovate, invent and disseminate knowledge for the benefit of the society and environment.

friendly biotechnology enterprises.
