Department of Commerce:

The Department of Commerce was instituted in the year 1995 with an intension of enriching and enlightens the knowledge of students in the field of commerce and industry. “Education is not a preparation of life, but life itself” as said, the faculty members motivate the students to enhance the professional excellence in accountancy. The department is presiding over by well qualified and experienced faculty members. To fortify our students, the department instills a global standard in all the perspectives on business with inculcating skills, knowledge and experience by providing guest lectures and seminars periodically. It offers foundation for many professional careers like Finance, Planning, Accountancy, Tax Practitioners, Banking and Broking, etc., besides academics, research and many more.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO)

PEO 1: To impart and to inculcate the ethical values in youth facing the modern-day challenges in commerce and business.
PEO 2: To provide the knowledge on the role played by financial and non-financial organization which support the business system.
PEO 3: To understand the use of software packages in day to day business activities by enhancing the computing skills.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (PO)

After completion of the programme the students will be able to
PO 1: Demonstrate progressive learning of various tax issues and tax forms related to individuals.
PO 2: Acquire knowledge in setting up a computerized set of accounting books for Business.
PO 3: Create the domain development and impart the role of accounting in society and business.
PO 4: Apply relevant financial accounting career skills, both quantitative and qualitative knowledge to develop their future careers in business.
PO 5: Gather proficiency skills to engage in competitive exams, CA, CS, ICWA and other courses.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO)

After completion of the programme, the graduates will be able to
PSO1: Critically apply broad theoretical finance knowledge and skills to inform accounting and management planning.
PSO2: Analyze accounting, taxation practices and decisions using theoretical and technical knowledge of regulatory, legal requirements and ICT in business environment.
PSO3: Apply business knowledge, technical competencies and critical judgments to make recommendations for business planning.
PSO4: Make use of the information about finance and accounting rules in the business perspective. PSO5: Acquire proficiency and knowledge to achieve an admirable career.

Eligibility

A candidate who has passed in Higher Secondary Examinations with Commerce and Accountancy (Academic or Vocational Stream) conducted by the Government of TamilNadu or an examination accepted as equivalent thereto by the syndicate, subject to such conditions as may be prescribed thereto are permitted to appear and qualify for the Bachelor of Commerce degree examination of this university after a course of study of three academic years. 20% reserved for vocational stream.

PSO 1: Impart a higher level of knowledge and understanding the contemporary trends in commerce and business finance.
PSO 2: Evaluate environmental factors that influence business operation with the conceptual requirements, skills on preparation and interpretation of accounting and financial statements.
PSO 3: Identify and analysis of investment, portfolio management, investment banking, risk mitigation, and liquidation of investments.
PSO 4: Enhance computer literacy and its applicability in business and develop decision-making skills.
PSO 5: Acquire the knowledge of business and the techniques of managing the business with a special focus on marketing, Insurance, and banking theory of law and practices.

Eligibility

Candidates seeking admission to the first year of the Master of Commerce with Computer Application Degree course shall possess B. Com (CA) / B. Com Degree; Or Any other UG degree with one subject as Accountancy.
